Marketing to Women: Pushing Beyond Stereotypes

There’s a new game show in the nation of Georgia that is getting some attention because of the way it presents women. The show, called Women's Logic has started a new conversation in the mid-Eastern country about gender equality.

The show features attractive, scantily clad models as contestants, partnered with fully-clothed male contestants. The women are asked a series of trivia questions and the men have to try and predict how the women will answer, thus trying to comprehend "women's logic."

Jezebel’s Erin Gloria Ryan describes the show in this way:

The set looks like how it would look to live inside the cover of a Chick Lit novel; it's decorated with whimsical oversized high heeled shoes filled with swirls in Girl Colors like teal and hot pink and purple. God, it just makes me want to face living and loving in the Big City as a magazine editor with an impossibly nice apartment and impossibly complicated love life! To a spunky soundtrack!

If anything, the male contestants are at a total disadvantage. Women are typically more intuitive as a gender and research has shown that women would be able to better anticipate what another person is going to say because of how much more they are perceptive of small subconscious cues than males.

Even though there is much more to marketing success than being a particular gender, as a marketing firm that specializes in reaching women, FletcherPR is aware of the common belief that women do empathize more, thus allowing them to better anticipate what another person is feeling and get a better feeling about what decisions he or she might make.

Because a big part of marketing is understanding and predicting consumer behaviors, understanding how both genders think and respond is important. Our specialty just so happens to be reaching women through the power of media. This is not because we are a female-owned firm, but because we put in the research and work to understand what women want. But it doesn't just stop there. We do this for each of our clients, working with them to identify audience segments and crafting strategic messages that will best speak to them in their language.
