An Open Letter of Thanks to Women Leaders

Last week we attended an event called "Women, Power & Leadership." Held at the University of Tennessee's Baker Center for Public Policy, the event was a panel discussion and gathering of minds of some of our area's power female movers and shakers, as well as some national people of interest, including former New Jersey Governor and EPA director Christine Todd Whitman. Open to women only, the event sold out and we'd be willing to bet there are other ladies who didn't get to attend. This post is a summary of what was said, as well as an open letter of thanks to these amazing women who shared insight, wisdom and advice gleaned from their prestigious careers.

Creative Marketing to Women, Right on Target

Over the years, Target has really worked to set itself apart from the other ‘big box stores’ by tailoring its offerings with specific shoppers in mind. The success this retail giant has experienced must be credited, at least in part, to its dedication to bringing high-end fashion labels to the masses. Beginning with Isaac Mizrahi, Target has collaborated with popular designers such as Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, and Anna Sui. Not only are these designers widely sought-after, but they also go for a much higher price point than the average shopper can afford. Target remedies this by providing styles from each designer at a fraction of the price they would normally sell for. Because each collection is limited in quantity as well as the amount of time it will be available in stores, lots of buzz is always created for Target.

Enhance your Calm in 2011

You may have seen this poster (or sillier variations of it) as it has gained popularity lately in the blogosphere and also in the realms of interior design and stationery. Produced in 1939 by the British Government to raise morale of the people during the war, rumor has it that the Queen herself first uttered this statement. Doesn't it sound like a queenly thing to say? With the stress of the holidays behind us (hopefully), we now face 2011. Many of us have made resolutions, some of us may even keep them. As women, we have a lot on our plates. Trying to juggle our fabulous careers, family adventures, love lives and still have time for ourselves is often exhausting. But honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way. We are born multi-taskers, destined for great things and always looking forward to what is to come. The next time you feel overwhelmed by life, why not take a moment and repeat this slogan to yourself. Heck, do it while wearing a tiara if you have one. The queen would approve! You might find that in the midst of a crisis, all you need is a little calm and you will indeed be able to carry on with gusto.
